Surry Community College is committed to preserving the area’s rich heritage of old-time music. As part of that commitment, we are excited to offer the 3rd annual Surry Old-Time Music Camp July 30 – August 3, 2018. Join us for a week of music and fun led by the area’s finest old-time musicians. This summer we are excited to offer more classes, more playing time, group jams, and the opportunity for students age 10 to 110 to learn an instrument or sharpen your skills. Students may choose a primary instrument and skill level to focus on for the week including: beginner and intermediate level fiddle, claw hammer banjo, and mandolin plus beginner through advanced level guitar. The week may also include workshops in string band, singing, traditional dance, stand-up bass, and dulcimer, etc. More details about workshop offerings will be coming soon!
The cost for the week is $75 for youth ages 10-17 and $150 for adults 18 and up. A limited number of loaner instruments are available for students who do not have their own. Please indicate this on your registration.
Surry Community College is proud to offer this camp sponsored by the Wright Traditional Music Fund and Martin Guitar Charitable Foundation.
